Walking north, along the Stanley Park sea-wall, you will come across a most distinct sight – a rocky outcrop - standing like a sentinel - alone in Vancouver Bay. The Squamish name for the rock is Slhx̱i7lsh. In 'Legends of Vancouver', poet Pauline Johnson relates a Squamish legend told to her by Chief Capilano - of how a man was transformed into Siwash Rock "as an indestructible monument to 'clean fatherhood'".In First Nations culture the rock represents a warrior, who to ensure his child's future, was turned to stone to stand as a symbol of his purity and dedication to fatherhood. Siwash Rock: the legend of a young father who sacrificed all for the sake of his child. Siwash Rock is not very accessible. It is only accessible via the Stanley Park Seawall.
